Junior Pope, Nollywood Star, 4 Others Die In A Boat Mishap

Three Nollywood actors, including Junior Pope, perish in a boat tragedy.

John Paul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, was a Nollywood actor. He passed away on April 10

On Wednesday, April 10, the filmmaker Samuel Olatunji announced his passing.

He claimed that the actor perished in the capsize of their boat along with three other people.

“Four actors, including Jnr Pope, fell into Anam River on their way to a location, and their bodies have been recovered.

“What a sad day for Nollywood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Olatunji wrote on his Instagram page.

Junior Pope left behind a spouse and their three of children.

Junior Pope implored the captain to go slowly in a video that he shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday while he was in a boat without a life jacket.

The Nollywood star advised his fans to observe how actors jeopardize their life for their enjoyment.

“I have three children to raise,” he yelled, pleading with the captain to move gently.

In the caption, he wrote, “See me lamenting… The risk we take to entertain you; crossing river 9ja yesterday with no life jacket… Na wahoooooo… Who does that ??”

Actors Guild of Nigeria National President Emeka Rollas announced on social media shortly after the news surfaced that Pope was still alive and undergoing treatment, but he later removed the post.

But on Thursday morning, Rollas stated that when they spotted Junior Pope’s fingers tingling, they were excited and made the earlier news that he was alive.

“It’s so so sad that our joy was shortlived. My first post was out of excitement when we noticed his tingling fingers,” he wrote on Instagram.

He added, “Two notable hospitals tried their best to revive him but to no avail. God knows the best.

“We finally lost him.”

He has acted in Nollywood movies like, “Secret Adventures”, “Eye of the Eagle”, “Bitter Generation”, “Wrong Initiation,” and “Honey Money” among others.
