Suspected bandits in Kasai village, in Katsina State’s Batsari Local Government Area, have taken at least thirty children hostage.

Suspected bandits in Kasai village, in Katsina State’s Batsari Local Government Area, have taken at least thirty children hostage.

Known as a Security Frontline Local Government Area, Batsari has recently had to deal with an increase in bandit and criminal activity.

The incident happened early on Monday, and neither government authorities nor security services have released an official statement regarding it yet.

There has been no formal confirmation or announcement on the situation, thus details are still scarce.

But, a local who talked to Channels Television claimed that the kidnapping happened as the kids went outside Kasai village to collect firewood for cooking.

“Yes, the attack occurred yesterday, Monday, in the morning hours. It all began when the children numbering up to thirty went behind the Kasai village to secure firewood which their parents would use to cook food for them.

“Unfortunately, some suspected bandits intercepted them and took them to an unknown destination.

“We do hope and pray that peace and security will be restored in our state”, he said.

A bandit attack on Tuesday morning resulted in the kidnapping of numerous worshippers from a mosque in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.

The incident happened when devout Muslims were participating in the well-known congregational Tahajjud prayers.

Muslims observe Tahajjud, a unique prayer, during the final ten days of Ramadan.

The terrorists invaded the town at around two in the morning, according to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert who recounted the experience in a post on the X platform.

Makama wrote: “In the early morning of Tuesday at about 0200hr, bandits sneaked into Gusau Town and abducted several worshippers in a Mosque while they were observing tahajjud (midnight) prayers.”

The police was yet to speak on the incident as at the time of writing this report.
